Kristin has over 15 years of experience working with small to large non-profit organizations in the United States and overseas. She has specific expertise in leading and managing teams to design and implement education programs across a number of content areas, including early literacy, youth workforce development, college readiness, and civic leadership. Kristin provides technical services in new program development, program adaptation for new contexts, training, partnership building, and staff and team development. She is passionate about providing guidance and mentorship to new and developing managers. Kristin also provides writing and research support for case studies, business plans, and funding proposals.
Before consulting, Kristin led Room to Read’s programming in school libraries and family and community engagement in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa. As a program lead, Kristin was responsible for overseeing the design and quality of program implementation in 10 countries. She led a global team of Regional Managers and Associates to develop guideline documents, professional training modules, and background research that provided global specifications and standards to be followed across all Room to Read geographies. Kristin was also critical in Room to Read’s efforts to offer technical assistance work in primary school libraries. She designed and conducted Room to Read’s first technical assistance offering in the Maldives and led Room to Read’s initial opportunity assessment to invest almost $3 million in technical assistance work in Indonesia. As a consultant, Kristin continues to work on projects to support Room to Read’s efforts to offer technical assistance to organizations and governments.
Prior to joining Room to Read, Kristin was Manager and Director of Programs for a number of organizations, including the United Way of the Bay Area and the University of Maryland. At United Way, Kristin collaborated with San Francisco Unified School District, private sector employers, and numerous non-profit organizations to rollout the first summer jobs program for youth funded by the Obama administration. At the University of Maryland, Kristin developed secondary and post- secondary partnerships across numerous academic departments to design and implement a career academy that focused on college readiness and cross-cultural studies.
Kristin earned an M.A. in Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Maryland College Park and a B.A. in Anthropology and Spanish from the University of New Hampshire. Kristin served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bolivia and was a Fellow in the Sargent Shriver Peaceworker Program, a two year social change leadership program that integrates three key components: graduate study, community leadership, and ethical reflection.
